Galaxy (right) - Zenith (left) at Antegua.

Notice the bridge location on Zenith left and Galaxy to the right the bridge is straight up. There is about 150' LOA difference between these two generations. Also notice in the image the location of lifeboats. On the older ship the lifeboats obscure cabin views, on Galaxy they are tucked above the Promenade deck so they obscure nothing and they are easier brought to the deck for evacuation. Smart design upgrade!

Promenade Deck at night

As mentioned above, notice the keels of the lifeboats/tenders at the top of the image.

When dining, this is a great place to escape for a smoke or a breath of fresh air. It's an absolutely beautiful space. It's fun to watch the waves below, or look out at an island (and take a GPS reading). Dining level 2 is here, so you might want to prefer that level.

Main Dining, night

Tough shot to capture, even with digital camera. Shot from our table on the rail, 2nd level. Noise level is surprising low considering the amount of people. Vibration from the ships screws is minor, hardly noticed. There were a few occasions when that wasn't the case, and on the bridge tour I asked about that and the officer explained the unique cases we had and why. See Bridge Tour.

Dining Orchestra

What can I say, they are in the background, visually and aurally. Yet, if you take a moment and listen. They were excellent, usual classical low tempo stuff. Very classy.

Waiters

This is a crap shoot, no matter which cruise or cruise line. Luck of the draw. We were in Cat 2 cabins so we supposedly got the better ones. Last Galaxy we had an excellent Waiter and Maitre'd, this time so-so. Yet this time we had an awesome Assistant, and so-so Maitre'd. Doesn't much matter... you get real serious with them about your needs and they get it the second night. Tipping, average for all except assistant, who we tipped above average (and included a personal note).

Kitchen Tour

Left is full length view where waiters get meals, right, soups being prepared. A worth while tour. It's impressive how clean everything is and all wear gloves!

Promenade

Night and day views. At night, popping out there during dinner courses and day with folks reading or sleeping.

A beautiful space.

GPS - "toys for boys"

New to this trip was the Garmin III+ unit. Great site for info on this is...
http://joe.mehaffey.com/ What was really fun was knowing at all times exactly where we were, how fast we were going and how far away was land or destination. For example, if I saw an island from my veranda, I just moved the pointer and it showed me island detail and distance and bearing to it. When I went on the Bridge Tour, I asked the Chief Officer if in fact we were at 9.1 knots and course 350, he looked at his instruments and said "yep!". Feel free to ask questions by clicking email link below.
