Dover Downs - June 4, 2000 |
| Included below are images and comments from our recent experience. Tony Steward ( 20 car Home Depot ) had it most of the way and won the race. |

NASCAR events are HUGE. It's the largest sporting event in the US, perhaps the world. The typical Football attendance is approximately 36,000, NASCAR is approximately 140,000. That's a LOT of cars. This is a view while crawling at literally 1 mph for 3 miles (or 3 hours) to the gate on Rt. 13. The "secret" is back roads. Had we not known them, we would have missed the start of the race. This is a problem for Dover, and despite work on Route 1, will remain.

NASCAR events are HUGE. This is what the long travel times are all about. This view illustrates what 150,000 fans looks like. Keep in mind this is 1/4 of the total image! This is Start/Finish looking left to halfway between turn 3 and 4. View is from Row 18, "G"
section.

NASCAR fans are HUGE. This is the lineup of cars before green flag. Note the cheers. Someone was just announced! Notice the foreground, to the lower left, the scanner headphones (required), and to the right, a hat with appropriate pins. You will never find a friendlier crowd at any sporting event. Although drinking occurs, I have only witnessed consistantly polite beheavor. These are serious fans in a tradition. |

NASCAR is SPEED! This is a quick shot before being "asked to leave" at the fence on the walkway. This is the place to truely experience the impact of 1000's of horsepower at incredable speeds. This picture doesn't do justice to the sound and even the smell. (Note: You can "walk" at all points of the race, you just can't stand and watch here while they are under green. So in other words, if you want to watch the race on the walkway, you just have to "keep walking".) (Note: This image is the pace car at 55 mph leading the pack, under full race, this image is impossible to photograph because of speed.)
